We tie these things together by:
- definitions of Nature,
- the dissociation of our (American) food culture,
- representations of gender,
- repetition and difference,
- canonicity.
We utilize:
- sublime landscapes,
- food that has been severed from its origin and rebranded.
We tie these things together by:
- investigating canonicity and the ways the dreams and voices of the past populate our imaginations, and how this might be analogous to the ways that the sunlight reaches us, from a distance of 92 million miles, through our mouths as we unwrap and devour a pink Starburst;
- asking how literary and pictorial history shape our fantasies about the natural world;
- politicizing the fantasies we use to define "nature," "home," and "place;"
- exploring the fantastic dimensions of everyday objects– especially food objects– as they intersect with ideologies of nature, art, ecosystems, capital, and human communities;
- assessing the gender politics of producing, distributing, and thinking about food, writing, and art.
